DZONGU REACTS TO THEIR MLA'S STATEMENT

MLA SG Lepcha damaged the image of SDF party: Ms Zeermu Lepcha

GANGTOK: There has been sharp criticism of the statement of Dzongu area MLA, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha over the protests and hunger strike initiated by the Affected Citizens of Teesta (ACT) here.
In a letter to the Sikkim Democratic Front party President, Ms Zeermu Lepcha, former President of SDF Cheli Morcha, Dzongu Constituency, and Chief Convenor of North District, said that the MLA has ‘damaged’ the image of the party and had also fallen from people’s expectations in him as their representative.
In her statement, Ms Lepcha held that after becoming the MLA, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha along with few Panchayat members without any consultation with party members and the people of Dzongu decided to implement Hydro Electric Projects in Dzongu.
‘When the people and party members questioned his action, he branded all the loyal SDF supporters as anti-party and we too, unable to withstand the double standard and for the love of our land and people maintained distance with his anti-Dzongu and anti-party activities’, Ms Zeermu Lepcha opined.
According to her, due to this, large number of SDF supporters lost faith in his leadership and in the process got alienated from the party and formed the organisation Affected Citizens of Teesta to work for the protection of Dzongu, thereby causing serious damage to the party in the constituency.
Voicing against Sonam Gyatso Lepcha’s alleged opinion about ACT struggle as politically motivated, Ms Lepcha on her part clarified that in reality, the MLA for his personal benefit had done irreparable damage to the image of SDF party and Dzongu. ‘He (Sonam Gyatso Lepcha) has no moral right to say anything against the original SDF members or for Dzongu’, she added.
