The Department of Tourism has been organizing similar programmes in the past in Namchi, Soreng and Mangan. Till date four hundred plus educated unemployed youths have been trained by the Department under the Tourism Trade sector. The trained youths were even engaged by TAAS during this peak tourist season as Guides, which is indeed a positive response. This is an effort made by the Government to make the youths of the state self reliant and economically independent as Tourism sector plays a pivotal role for the economic prosperity of Sikkim. The Tourism Department is also making an effort to have these trained youths get placement with hotels, travel agents and tour operators.
