Kalimpong: The prestigious national environment award - Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Purashkar has been awarded to Jyotsna Sitling on occasion of World Environment Day. The award was handed over by Pranab Mukerjee in New Delhi.Jyotsna Sitling, an Indian Forest Service officer from Chibu Busty, Kalimpong, serving in Chamoli, famous tourist point of Uttarakhand.With her sincere efforts, the UNESCO in July 2005 enlisted the Valley of Flowers National Park in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve as a World Heritage site. She was also responsible to bring the proper waste management system in the area.She did her schooling at St. Philomena, Kalimpong and MSC in botany from Government College, Darjeeling. She is the 1987-batch forest service officer, from Dehra Dun. The award carries a silver lotus, a citation and Rs 5 lakh.
