NAMCHI: The teacher’s conference on ‘Quality Education’ for Jorethang constituency was held today at Community Hall, Namchi, organised by the HRDD, Namchi, South district.
The constituency level teachers’ conference on quality education is being currently held at South district only. The conference started at South district with its first meeting at Temi-Tarku constituency held on 5 May. Today’s meeting was the second meeting held here at Namchi for Jorethang constituency. Of 327 expected participants, 315 were present today including headmasters and teachers.
Following the welcome address by MP Subba, Joint Director to HRDD, South, the brief background of the meeting was presented by DB Subba, Assistant Director to HRDD South. The day’s programme included deliberation on various topic on quality education like ‘role of school heads/ teachers in developing overall growth of a child’, analytical views on current cocurriculum framework and its implementation, ‘role of school heads/ teachers to create congenial school atmosphere total management resource mobilization etc’, ‘quality indicators (education) are integral component of school within special references’, ‘English as medium of instruction and its impact on today’s education system with special references’ etc.
All the topics were deliberated by the head of different schools and interaction on each deliberation was also held. The chief guest of the programme today was GM Gurung, Minister for HRDD, government of Sikkim, while the guest of honour was KN Rai, Minister for RMDD, government of Sikkim.

The Secretary to HRDD, government of Sikkim, KP Adhikari also addressed the gathering wherein he spoke on quality of education and told that to bring quality education teachers should work thinking very student as their own ward and should work keeping in mind the need of basic things for a better education for the children and work accordingly.
He said, to develop education according to need of the students is a part of quality education and also said that the teachers will be provided with all the needed facilities but in turn they should be give equal response towards their students, or only such eligible teachers will be appointed.
The guest of honour KN Rai in his address opined, for survive it is necessary to develop and built our capacity and education is necessary not only for job hunting but also to become a good citizen. He thereupon requested all teachers to guide the young generation and students towards good path and thanked the teachers for their participation.
Meanwhile, the chief guest GM Gurung in his address pointed that teachers should be the owners of education and knowledge in Sikkim and they should be a constant source of information. He informed that advance teachers’ interview will be conducted from 2008, that has been planned. He also urged the school heads to deal strictly with their subordinates and staffs in case of negligence in duty.
Coining teachers as the industrialists of knowledge, Gurung today voiced against commercialisation of education and said education today is being commercialised that needs to be stopped. He bid the teachers to be an example of truth, love, peace and human security for the students and should be a icon before students steering them to right paths of life and career. The programme came to a close with vote of thanks by MK Rai, Deputy Director to HRDD, government of Sikkim.
