GANGTOK:The north sikkim highway from Gangtok to North Sikkim is littered with landslips although most of them are minor and couple of them are becoming major problems resulting in a long line of vehicle on either side waiting to pass through. One such chronic landslip is near B2 which has started yesterday afternoon and one of the major two trouble-spots on North Sikkim Highway.
A bulldozer managed by BRO personnel was engaged in cleaning the road at a traditional trouble-spot B1 since yesterday afternoon and by late evening could clear the road from debris that has blocked it. meanwhile, North sikkim bound vehicles from Gangtok were compelled to use alternative route via Dikchu .
There are reports that some other such landslips further on Mangan road could take some more days to completely restore blocked highway. These landslips were result of onslaught of ferocious pre-monsoon showers that have occured in last few days in Sikkim.
The Meteorological Center,Gangtok has recorded more than 158 mm of rainfall 'termed heavy' over the Gangtok hill in last two days. The present showers have been triggered by depression over northeast Bay of Bengal,as per reports of Met. department.
