Gangtok:If not killed at birth, this infant baby girl was left by her parents minutes after she was born.The new born was found inside a drain of washroom facilities of Entel Motors at 5th Mile, Gangtok by man in charge of cleaning these facilities who has doing these job for years now and was surprised to see head of a baby when he was about to do his usual morning job at Entel Motors.“I was on my regular duty today morning cleaning up the toilets when was attention was drawn to the first toilet room when I heard the sound of a baby crying,” the sweeper Ramesh Chettri said. Sensing something wrong, he immediately called the neighbours and when they went inside the toilet room, they found the baby half inside a sewage pipe. The baby, still alive but breathing heavily, was pulled out and taken to the Central Referral Hospital and admitted to the in Neo Natal Intensive unit (NNIC) under the pediatrics department.
People living nearEntel Motors have admitted the baby girl in the Manipal Hospital , where she can be taken proper care of. We know that it is impossible to find the parents of this girl although we would make our best efforts to locate family of abandoned child.
Giving details about the child, Manipal Hospital authority said that it is indeed ironical that such a little baby has been abandoned. “There is a severe cut marks in the body of the baby and she is in a critical condition,” Dr Jayanth Mazumdar, Senior Resident, NNIC of SMIMS informed. The baby was put in a ventilator to assist her breathing but chances of her survival are dim.Forceful pushing of new born into drainage has not only resulted in facial injuries but also grieveous internal injuries to child.And all efforts are being made to provide best medical treatment to treat new born's injuries external as well as internal ones.Later in the morning, a 15-year-old girl from the same locality was taken to the hospital for medical examination under suspicion. Sources have said that that examination revealed that the girl has just given birth. The girl is presently under treatment.The baby it was learnt was born yesterday morning and was immediately abandoned in the Car Workshop where girl's parents both work.
