TWO DAYS LEPCHA SEMINAR CONCLUDES

S ikkim Lepcha Association has organised a 2 days Seminar on LEPCHA LANGUAGE & LITERATURE SEMINAR at Sikkim Government Collage Auditorium was concluded today onApril18,2007 in a glittering function attended by Dr. Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim.
The Seminar commemorated the Lepcha history and Lepcha language and literature and was attended by 400 teachers.

The speech of Dr. Chamling was aspired to generate debates and discussions by Lepcha scholars recognisation of it as a" primitive tribe" and acceptance of same by Government of India in principal and many fold benefits it would deliever to Lepcha race in terms of its protection and also unique safeguards for its cultural, language and literature heritage
In keeping with its spirit of academic freedom and excellence in state of Sikkim, Dr. chamling announced acceptance of Association's demands for scholarships for PHD and Fellowships. CM also announced trainning programmes for Lepcha Teachers in state and called upon local teachers to follow educational philosophy which aims at making their students greater scholars in days ahead.

Dr.Pawan Chamling also on occassion felicitated Shree Sonam Tshering Lepcha who was recently awarded Padma Shri,India's one of highest civilian award for his contribution in field of Art and hoped he would continue to contribute of same more in days to come and thus making all people of state proud.

Padma Shree Awardee ,Sonam Tshering Lepcha who was felicitated by Chief Minister yesterday on concluding session of 2 days seminar on Lepcha language & culture at sikkim government collage auditorium.While congratulating the ‘one and only’ Lepcha Historian the CM said,” he is living Legend to be treasured,respected and listened to by all.All Lepcha should take his example and commit themselves to carry forward what he has achieved with his diligent work in the last 40 years or so”.
“This is a proud moment for me to be able to felicitate an individual who has contributed so much to rescue Lepcha traditions and rituals from extinction” Mr. Chamling said.
He stressed that entire State has benefited from the work of Sonam Tshering Lepcha who has given Lepcha Community the foundation from which they could build on and enhance and retrieve their literary and cultural heritage.
“I ask all intellectuals present here to aspire to match the achievement of this exceptional man.Be pioneers in your respective fields and set examples for Lepchas every where” he urged
