Gangtok, April 17: The North Eastern Council’s sectoral meeting on tourism will be held here on April 27 and 28.
With representatives from all the eight northeastern states expected to take part, the meeting will review the tourism scenario and chart a roadmap for further growth in the region.
This is the second time that Sikkim will host a meeting of North Eastern Council (NEC). The council’s 48th annual meeting was held here in 2002 and was attended by chief ministers and governors from all the states of the region.
The state government will convene a meeting tomorrow to chalk out the preparations for the meet.
NEC had first launched the tourism development segment in April 2003 and Rs 973 lakh has already been disbursed through it. The scheme aims at promoting the creation of infrastructure for religious, cultural, wildlife, eco and tea tourism, publication of advertorials and provide support to tourism festivals.
