Poetry Contest for budding poets of Sikkim held

GANGTOK, April 29: The state level poem competition was conducted today here at Sikkim Sahitya Parisad, Development Area under the aegis of Yourisia, Reuakay (NGO). The function was attended by Subadra Rai, Chairperson, Sikkim Women Commission as the chief guest, along with other renowned laureates of the state as well as from other neighboring state’s.
The primary aim of this event was to provide a platform for budding talents, who are skilled in poem writing, singing, and in other fields of literature. To enhance the skills of these writers and poets, a poem recitation competition was conducted, wherein among 10 poets, three was declared the winners. Bhawani Gimmery stood first followed by Bhopal Kausik and Mahendra Bajay, respectively in the second and third position, who were awarded certificates of merits.
21st Prativa Milan, a series of poetry function and Euroasia -Reukai 12th branch, Gangtok organized State poetry competition at Nepali Sahitya Parishad Bhavan, Gangtok on April 29. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Mrs. Subhatra Rai, Chairperson of Sikkim Women Council and the function was presided by Padmashri Sanu Lama.The function started with lighting of lamp by Chief Guest and other dinitaries. After the welcome speech by the President of Euroasia-Reukai branch, the State poetry competition was started. The judges of the competition were Shri Rudra Poudyel, Shri Pravin Rai Jumeli, Shri Kalusingh Ranapahali.Shri T.B.Chandra Subba, a literary person was felicitated on the occasion. Similarly, the participant poets of recently concluded North East Poetry competition were also honored with offering Khadas by the Chief Guest. The participant poets from Sikkim was adjudged the best team in the poetry competition at Guwahati. A short drama written by Thaman Nauwang was also stated. The drama was on the theme of feticide of female child and the awareness of the importance of role of women in society. The cultural programme was also performed by various artists. Chief Guest and the chairperson of the function spoke about the role of literature and social work in the society and encouraged to the students to come forward for better performance not only in art and dance but also in study.
During the course of the meet TB Chandra, a renowned poet and author was also felicitated for his outstanding contribution in the field of Nepali literature. The release of three novels, including Chinari written by Chandra Dulal, KM Adhikari the author of Shristi and Ganga Sagar’s Pathalay was also conducted
