GANGTOK, April 11: Justice BJ Sethna of Gujarat High Court, under orders of transfer to the Sikkim High Court, has resigned from judicial services, says reports from Gujarat. The judge had reportedly tendered his resignation yesterday. Justice Sethna was supposed to join Sikkim High Court and his swearing in date was fixed on 16 April. It may be recalled that the three-quorum bench of the Sikkim High Court had reduced to two following Justice AP Subba’s recent transfer to Guwahati High Court. The registrar general of Sikkim HC, however, said that no official confirmation has reached them so far regarding Justice Sethna’s resignation.Justice Sethna had been a controversial figure as far as Sikkim legal sector is concerned. He was reported as saying that Sikkim was a Kalapani for judges when his transfer order was released in the month of January.Members of Bar Association of Sikkim had expressed serious objections to Justice Sethna’s statement.
