CAPACITY TO PROGRAMME ON MEDICINAL PLANTS & NURSERY TECHNIQUE

GANGTOK, April 28: A capacity building programme on Medicinal plants, nursery technique of important tree species and bamboo propagation was initiated today at the conference hall of Forest Department under the aegis of State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB), Department of Forest, Environment & Wild Life Management, government of Sikkim.
The meet was attended by SZ Loksum as the chief guest along with other fraternity members including SK Tiwari, Additional Director to SMPB/ NTF, Bijoy Gurung, Director to SMPB, TR Bhutia, DFO/ NTFP/ SMPB.
“The primary aim for conducting such training is to upgrade the economic development of entire progressive farmers as well to generate self sustainable opportunities among the educated unemployed youths” said TR Bhutia. People attended the event from all the five constituencies.
On the another hand, the scheme undertaken by the nodal department will also offer opportunities to the interested individuals that will be conducted on the basis of those interested to get involved in plantation of all kind particularly medicinal plants, which are of multiple use.
“Various other projects related to improvisation of the medicinal plants will be initiated soon. Illegal trade of medicinal plants within and outside the state should be monitored in a strict manner so as to avoid thefts of medicinal plants”, said Bijoy Gurung.
During the course of event resource person Dr Prajul Lama explained technical knowhow involved in organic farming and medicinal plantation followed by a brief speech on bamboo propagation by Tika Prasad Sharma (JRF). Similar capacity building programme is scheduled to be conducted in the other three districts
