KURSEONG, April 26: Commemoration of the 88th birth anniversary of famous Nepali story writer Shiva Kumar Rai at Kurseong today chipped in an added flavour with felicitation of Sikkim’s former MP and famed writer Bhim Dahal by Indian Nepalese Gorkha Jana Pustakalya.
Organised by one of the oldest social organisation Indian Nepalese Gorkha Jana Pustakalya with Bhim Dahal as the chief guest, the ‘Shiva Kumar Rai Smriti Puraskar’ for education was presented to Ms Sujana Rijal of Tindharay.
Ms Sujana Rijal obtained the highest marks in Nepali subject last year in Higher Secondary Examination. The award of Rs 1001 was presented by Professor Ganga Prasad Bhattarai of Kurseong College.
The famous story ‘Chaata’ (Umbrella) of Shiva Kumar Rai rewritten by renowned writer Krishna Pradhan in Nepali and Mukti Upadhya in Bengali. Professor Rinji Eden Wangdi presented her analytical speech on the story of Rai. Shiva Kumar Rai was born in Rhenock in Sikkim and was honoured by Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978.
Dr Jas Yonzon ‘Pyasi’ gave an introduction of Bhim Dahal. The function was chaired by Tanka Sharma, President to Pustakalya and conducted by Ms Rachana Rai.
