Gangtok, April 12 : Highly urbanized Gangtok, capital of sikkim, endured wednesday night what stands to be the longest recent power interruption minus a storm, heavy rain or aftershock of a natural calamity and disaster.
This ,as most of Gangtok , suffered at least 15 hours of straight full power black-out that hampered local businesses and affected private homes. Telephone Enquiry Nos. of Power Department, Govt. of Sikkim bombarded with calls from irate residents as questions remained unanswered as to why there was no power and more importantly, why there was no public advisory made.
The black-out also came in the most rotten of timing, angry callers similarly expressed, with Gangtok tourists just getting over their recent woes of Changu Landslide .
Telephone Enquiries revealed
Power started to be restored in the city proper about 1pm in thursday afternoon .
Business establishments & Hotels with generators managed to operate normally while those that depend on power supplies suffered.
Emergencies supply was maintained as ususal through Diesel Power Station Supplies by Power Department.
